This lesson finds them by factoring or the quadratic formula. ## ZEROS OF A QUADRATIC FUNCTION The zeros of a quadratic function are those values of x for which f(x) = 0. This means the points where the function intersects the x-axis. A quadratic function typically has two zeros, which can be calculated in several ways. To determine the zeros, we solve the quadratic equation ax² + bx + c = 0. ## CALCULATING THE ZEROS To calculate the zeros, we set the entire function equal to 0, obtaining a quadratic equation. ### METHODS FOR SOLVING: If possible, we solve the equation by factoring out the greatest common factor or by using rules for factoring trinomials (e.g., Vieta's formulas). If factoring is not straightforward, we use the quadratic formula to calculate the zeros: x = \[-b ± sqrt(b² – 4ac)] / (2a)
